Poetry is where the grappling
finds form without
the burden of argument.
There is a reason the poem arrives when the essay cannot.
The essay must prove. The poem must only be true.
I have been doing poetry as long as I have been thinking — which is to say, always. It is the form that holds what the other registers cannot: the thing that is felt before it is understood, the knowing that arrives before the language for it does. The Subsoil philosophy was a poem before it was a framework. The memoir was a poem before it was prose.
The poems are published at the Subsoil Journal — some in full, some in fragments, all as part of an ongoing practice.
If you want the poetry in a room — at your event, your gathering, your festival — or if you want to commission a poem for a specific occasion or subject, this is the door.
The poem does not explain itself.
It simply arrives — and you know, when it does,
that it has been underground for a long time.
